Be Attentive and Present in This Moment

I began my study of photography in high school, got a degree in film production, taught video production to middle school students and have lived in our visually rich world. My photographic work is an effort to pay attention, stay in the moment and capture something of value and interest within the frame.

A couple of years ago a friend challenged, “show me,” when I was trying to explain something with mere words. My husband encouraged me, “you’re good at this” and added, “I love the joy I see in you when you are taking pictures, it transforms you.” I had been telling myself to “lighten up.” I’ve been too serious for too long. My life journey has brought me here, putting frames around bits and pieces of my life experience. What does it all mean? I’m still trying to figure it out, wondering what’s next. In the meantime, I hope you find something interesting to stimulate your eye or your heart or your mind.

The technical stuff
Currently, I work with the Canon 5DSLR using Canon’s best L-series lenses, do simple processing of the images with Adobe Lightroom and print on Moab matte paper using Epson’s K3 UltraChrome inks. All images are archivally mounted and matted, a few are framed using simple black frames and glass. I sometimes adjust color temperature and increase saturation, and occasionally crop. I print an image that most closely represents the one I experienced when I pushed the shutter. I am still exploring my environment and find that I am most attracted to simple themes, to reflections, to whimsy and bright colors. Mostly I look for the light – when it dances for me, I take the picture.
